This Family is On the Front Lines of Trump's Push to Cut Health Care
“Nobody will be able to say they didn’t know.”
Too many Washington policy debates are treated as if they’re just theoretical or purely political. But what really matters the most is what these decisions mean for people's lives.
This week, as the Senate was voting to cut Medicaid and kick more than ten million people off of their health insurance, I spoke with Stacy – a mom of twin girls who were born very premature, one of whom requires 24/7 care for a chronic lung condition to this day – focusing on how this bill will impact Americans outside of Washington.
The family’s employer-based health insurance only goes so far. And Medicaid is the only thing making it possible for Stacy’s daughter to live at home instead of in a medical facility - it is the bedrock of their everyday life.
Policy debates sometimes become abstract or academic, but for families like Stacy’s, changes to Medicaid can have immediate and foundational consequences.
As the bill heads back to the House, I’m grateful to Stacy for sharing her story and using her voice to make sure politicians know exactly how much their choices matter.
If this bill becomes law - it will impact all of us in some way or another, and ultimately it will be up to every citizen to hold these elected officials accountable with our voices and our votes.
I often say politics matters because it’s personal to our everyday lives. In moments like this, telling our own stories is one of the most powerful ways each of us can have an impact. I hope you’ll watch our conversation, share Stacy’s story with your own friends and family, and let people in your life know just how much is at stake for you too.
It won’t impact Lisa Murkowski and Alaska because she caved on everyone else.
Why is this the first by a Democrat of an actual human and actual family affected by these Medicaid cuts? How the hell do you expect to inform the fox Maggots with nothing but theoretical abstracts cuts cuts cuts that's all we hear about no human stories. That's what made the abortion issue powerful. The Democrats are pathetic losers. I'm sick and tired of it. Too little too late Pete .today in the Washington Post There was a story of a young man who got cancer who would never have survived without Medicaid. Why aren't the Democrats flooding the zone with these stories ?because they're pathetic losers and I'm sick of being a Democrat. I'm sick of being a loser.
